Kazys Starkevičius, Acting Minister of Agriculture, initiated a meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of National Defence and AB „Via Lietuva“ in view of the issue raised by the social partners regarding the reduction of roads in rural areas.

Agriculturalists are facing problems with public road infrastructure and the newly designed and installed guardrails, safety islands, roundabouts and other road elements on roads used for public traffic, which limit the passability of agricultural machinery and the equipment it carries.

The meeting decided that the Ministry of Transport and Communications and AB „Via Lietuva“ will review the Road Technical Regulation and the regulation governing the activities of AB „Via Lietuva“ in the light of the specific needs of the agriculture sector. They will make proposals that could contribute to a more favourable regulatory environment for the sector.
