The Government advocates greater market protection against illegal pesticides
The government has endorsed a proposal by two MPs to strengthen plant protection product regulation, which they say has loopholes and does not prevent the sale of counterfeit products, but proposes that the Seimas not consider the draft.
This is the Government's conclusion that will be submitted to Parliament.
The Ministry of Agriculture's proposal supports the aim of the amendment to the Plant Protection Act to strengthen Lithuania's protection against unregistered falsified products, but proposes that the draft be not considered by the Seimas, as the Government intends to submit amendments to the Act and to the Administrative Offences Code to the Seimas in the spring session in 2026.
Viktoras Pranckietis and Kęstutis Navickas propose legal measures against unregistered such products, regulating the actions of the State Service for Plant Breeding by extending its powers, and clarifying the concept of falsified products.
