EUR 320.5 thousand from the State Reserve to compensate farmers for frost and heavy rainfall

The government proposes to allocate €320,500 from the state reserve to partially compensate farmers in some districts for the losses they suffered last year due to frost and prolonged heavy rainfall, which led to the declaration of a state of emergency in the country.

According to the conclusion of the Ministry of Finance, the state support for the losses would amount to 22% of the damages suffered.

„The draft decree proposes to compensate the damage suffered by economic operators (as a result of the prolonged period of rain – BNS) on the same basis, i.e. at the same percentage as the losses suffered by agricultural operators affected by the frost (22% of the amount of the damage suffered), “, the ministry said.

Euros 7.6 thousand have been earmarked for frost compensation for residents, farmers and farms in the Alytus district, and Euros 2.3 thousand in the Kretinga district. A further €85,000 is foreseen for compensation for farmers in this municipality as a result of heavy rainfall.

The long rainy season also proposes to compensate the municipalities of Biržai – €27.26 thousand, Klaipėda – €14.9 thousand, Panevėžys – €88.25 thousand, Panevėžys – €88.25 thousand, Panevėžys – and Klaipėda &ndash. On 1 April, the government lifted the state-level emergency declared last spring and summer due to the effects of frost and prolonged rain on agriculture.

As BNS reported, the government declared the emergency on 28 May 2025 due to the effects of frost, and on 13 August 2025 due to the effects of a long rainy season –. This has allowed for the exemption of sanctions for farmers and farms unable to meet various commitments due to exceptional conditions.

In Lithuania, 4,818 hectares of frost-damaged shrubs and berry bushes and another 9,116 hectares of other agricultural plants and crops were identified. The prolonged rainy period affected 17,600 ha of crops and crops.

The European Commission has already granted Lithuania €1.1 million last year to support affected farmers. Together with national support, €3.3 million was paid last year to farmers who submitted 368 applications for damage to orchards and berry crops.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, last summer some areas received more rain in a day than they normally receive in a whole month. In July alone, the average rainfall was 167% of the normal monthly rainfall, and in some places as much as two or three times normal.
