EU Carbon Certification Expert Event
On 5−6 February, the European Union Carbon Certification Scheme Expert Working Group will hold events. They will discuss certification methodologies for carbon farming and building carbon storage activities.
On 5 February at 10:00 (Lithuanian time), a debate on the draft delegated regulation establishing certification methods for carbon storage farming activities is scheduled. The regulation so far sets out methodologies for three types of activities: agricultural and agroforestry on mineral soils, rewetting and restoration of peat and other organic soils, and afforestation (afforestation). These activities aim to promote soil and forestry systems, to absorb and store more CO₂ or reduce existing CO₂ emissions. This event is relevant to farmers, forest owners, NGOs and anyone interested in the EU carbon certification scheme process.
On 6 February at 10.30 a.m., the event will focus on the discussion of the methodology for carbon storage in buildings and the presentation of the technical assessment document for this methodology. The event is relevant for all those interested in the European "New Bauhaus" initiative and sustainable buildings.
The event will be webcast live and the discussions among the participants should help to shape practical standards for methodologies for reliable and efficient carbon certification.
The event will be held in English. It will be available to watch live on the European Commission's website.
