Did frost damage the flowers at Pakruojis Manor?

The cold weather that hit Lithuania at the weekend has caused a lot of anxiety – will the overnight frost harm the millions of blossoms at the Spring Flower Festival „Spring Symphony" at Pakruojis Manor? Fortunately, the tulips are hardy and tougher than they look. Although temperatures dropped to –2 °C in places, none of the main tulip varieties, including the more sensitive ones such as „Ice Cream", „Queen of Night", „Janet" or „Fringed Mixed", suffered any serious damage.

„Tulips are well adapted to Lithuanian springs – they are no strangers to short-term frosts. Moreover, if the blossom has not yet fully opened, it will protect itself naturally against frost. The flowers have lost neither colour nor life," commented the estate gardeners.

Spring flowers – champions of hardiness

Narcissus, hyacinths, pansies – like tulips, these spring flowers are all renowned for their frost resistance. Most of them can withstand frosts as low as –5 °C without any major consequences.

The floral arrangements of the Palace have remained unchanged, and the frost has only added to their contrast and charm. More than 250 species of spring flowers are in bloom on the estate.
