The Ministry of Agriculture is drawing up new support measures – 900,000 euros has already been earmarked this year for the liming of conditionally acidic soils, and the compensation will help cover half the cost of purchasing liming materials.

In order to address the problem of moderately acidic soils, with a pH of 5.5 or lower, as quickly as possible at national level, the Ministry of Agriculture has allocated 900,000 euros for 2026. It is planned that around 18,000 hectares will be limed this year.

The aim of the support is to compensate for part of the costs of liming materials purchased, the main component of which is calcium carbonate or calcium and magnesium carbonate, constituting at least 80 per cent of the composition. 50 per cent of the costs incurred will be reimbursed, but the amount of the reimbursement may not exceed 50 euros per hectare.

Applications for support will be accepted from 7 July to 7 August (inclusive); in subsequent years – from 1 February to 1 March (inclusive).

Applications must be accompanied by laboratory soil test results proving that the areas specified in the application have conditionally acidic soils. Soil tests must have been carried out no earlier than four years prior to the calendar year in which the application is submitted.

Liming of moderately acidic soils must be carried out during the following periods:

• in 2026 – from 8 August to 3 November (inclusive);

• in subsequent years – from 2 March to 3 November (inclusive) of the current calendar year.

Comments and proposals regarding the draft regulations may be submitted until 29 June this year.
