Biovela Group is seeking permission to acquire Idavang and a stake in eight of its biogas companies

The Kantauskas family-controlled meat processing group “Biovela Group” is seeking permission to acquire a controlling stake in the Danish-owned pig farming company “Idavang” and a stake in eight biogas production companies it controls.

The Competition Council has announced that it has received a request from “Biovela Group” to acquire up to 92 per cent of “Idavang” and, indirectly through it, 17.5 per cent each of ‘Psenergija’, ‘Lenergija’, ‘Senergita’, ‘Menergija’, ‘Nenergija’, ‘Jenergija’, ‘Venergija’ and ‘Zenergija’, and, together with the construction company ‘GG Biogas LTU’, to acquire joint control over them.

According to the board, “Biovela Group” brings together modern meat processing companies, whilst its management company of the same name is engaged in business consultancy and other management activities.

Companies associated with the group in Lithuania purchase cattle and pigs, manufacture meat products, trade in food products, tobacco and alcoholic beverages, manage property, provide logistics services, and carry out market research and public opinion polls.

Meanwhile, ‘Idavang’ rears pigs and sells pork carcasses and offal. Its affiliated companies build and operate biogas power stations, generating electricity and biomethane.

As reported by BNS, the companies announced this transaction, the value of which has not been disclosed, in mid-April. Audrius Kantauskas, Chairman of the Board and largest shareholder of “Biovela Group”, stated at the time that the group aims to create a vertically integrated business model, as practised by market leaders.

The group produces more than 85,000 tonnes of output annually and employs over 1,800 staff.

„Biovela Group“’s revenue in 2025 amounted to €8.07 million, which was 5.8 per cent higher than in 2024 (€7.63 million), it made a net profit of €1.64 million – 1.8 per cent less (€1.67 million), according to the company’s report to the Centre of Registers.

The ultimate beneficiaries of ‘Biovela Group’ are Audrius and Virginijus Kantauskai, who hold 61 per cent and 29.07 per cent, respectively, of the shares in ‘Biovela Holding’ shares.

“Idavang” is the largest pig farmer in the Baltic states, operating 12 farms in Lithuania and rearing around 480,000 pigs annually, according to the press release. The company’s produce is exported to Poland and Latvia.

„Idavang“’s revenue in 2025 amounted to 80.9 million euros – 13.3 per cent less than in 2024 (93.3 million euros), and it recorded a net loss of €167,000 (compared with a net profit of €14.2 million).
