Milk purchases in Latvia fall in the first half of the year

In Latvia, 416,139 thousand tonnes of raw milk were purchased in the first half of this year, 0.2% less than in the same period last year, according to data published by the Latvian Rural Support Service.

In June alone, milk purchases dropped by 0.9% to 73,349 thousand tonnes compared to a year earlier.

Organic milk purchases in the first half of the year were 7.2% lower at 17,685 thousand tonnes, and 14.9% lower at 3,088 thousand tonnes in June alone.

Milking cows in the country fell by 3.5% in the year to the end of June to 113,036,000, of which those to be used for milk production fell by 5.2% to 102,279,000.
