Milk purchases in Latvia increased by 0.7% this year.

In Latvia, 772.6 thousand tonnes of raw milk were purchased in the first 11 months of this year, 0.7% more than in the same period last year, according to data released by the Latvian Rural Support Service.

Last month, milk purchases increased by 0.3% to 62.6 thousand tonnes compared to a year earlier.

In January-November, organic milk purchases alone were 9.1% lower than a year earlier at 32.9 thousand tonnes.

The number of milk cows in the country fell by 1.5% to 111.57 thousand in the year to the end of last month, of which the number of cows to be used for milk production dropped by 4% to 100.77 thousand.
