This year, the cranberry picking season starts a little earlier. We would like to remind you that visiting and collecting cranberries in national nature reserves is prohibited, with certain exceptions.
The berry picking (cranberry picking) in the designated areas of the Žuvintai Nature Reserve is allowed on 7-8 September this year for local residents who have declared their place of residence in the following villages: Naujavalakiai, Ąžuoliniai, Žuvintai, Aleknoniai, Grinkiškės, Liepakojų, Riečių, Šernų, Miknoniai, Vidgirėliai, Daukši, Liūliškės and Kumečiai. You should bring your ID with you.
The Čepkelių State Nature Reserve is also open for berry picking and mushroom picking during the whole month of September only to local residents who declare their residence in the villages and farmsteads bordering the reserve and who have an identity document with them. Cranberry picking in the Čepkeliai Reserve is a tradition for the local population – a tradition that has developed over decades.
Pick berries and mushrooms are allowed only during daylight hours (one hour after sunrise and one hour before sunset).
It is encouraging that people follow the rules of berry picking and present their identity documents to officials and reserve rangers in accordance with the established procedures.
