A train knocks down a brown bear in Kupiškis district
Restore the brown bear population, right? Politician Linas Jonauskas shared a shocking news on his Facebook account, which further fuelled the debate on the topic - over the weekend, a train killed a brown bear in the district of Kupiškis.
„Brown bears are increasingly coming to Lithuania in search of food. One moose cub from Belarus was recently caught on camera by border guards, while more bears are being captured by hunters' cameras.
There is evidence that some even winter here. Earlier this year, there were also reports of people spotting a female brown bear with cubs in Lithuania.
And this is probably the first time a dead bear has been found in Lithuania. In the Kupiškis region, railway workers found a bear that had been knocked down by a train“," wrote the Social Democrat.
„It's a pity about the bear, but I hope scientists will get additional information from this, which will eventually help to restore the population of brown bears in Lithuania“," he added.
