Marijampolė municipality starts collecting used cooking oil.

Special containers are being set up in the city for the collection of used cooking oil, the municipality announced this week. It can be used to produce biofuels.

„Used cooking oil is not just a waste product – it's a valuable resource that we can turn into clean energy. By encouraging people to recycle, we aim not only to protect the environment, but also to raise awareness in the community about sustainable solutions that create a better future for all," the report quotes the Director of the Municipality's Administration, Nerijus Mašalaitis, as saying.

The company „Biomotorai“ has set up 11 such containers in the municipality, in which it is possible to throw used cooking oil, expired cooking oil, edible oil that has changed its flavour, cooking oil with an unusual smell or appearance, herring oil, tuna oil, sprat oil, sprat oil, oil from dried tomatoes, paprika, and animal fats.

Mayonnaise, sauces, cosmetic oils, petroleum products, synthetic, mineral and other oils, oils for technical purposes, other waste and liquids should not be placed in the containers.

Residents wishing to sort their oil should cool the oil to room temperature after frying, pour it into a plastic container such as the original plastic bottle of oil or a plastic mayonnaise bucket, and dispose of the accumulated used cooking oil in the container provided.
