Brothers' farm-built grain crusher paves the way for MURSKA's global fame

Livestock farmers have received good news from Finland. Murska, the world's leading manufacturer of forage production equipment, has expanded its range of grain crushers and stackers, which can help farms to significantly reduce forage production costs and increase livestock productivity.

It is also important that the new „Murska“ grain crushers are suitable for virtually all crops, making feed production even simpler and more efficient, whether you are raising cattle, sheep, pigs or poultry.

The world's fame is no accident

„Murska“ has been manufacturing feed production equipment for 50 years, so it has accumulated vast experience in what kind of equipment a farmer needs," says Ugnius Stančiauskas, director of UAB „interAG“, which is representing „Murska“ brand in Lithuania.

It was the brothers Aimo and Gunnar Korte who built the first grain crusher in autumn 1969, when a grain dryer broke down on their farm. This was the beginning of the journey of the „Murska“ crushers to other farms. „Murska“ became a global company.

„Crushed grain improves animal health and helps to reduce the costs of growing, harvesting, drying and storing grain“," says U. Stančiauskas, trying to describe in a few words the benefits of „Murska“ technology for the farmer.

How is the crushing of grain done?

Crushing grain is grown in a similar way to conventional grain, but harvested 2-3 weeks earlier, when the grain has turned yellow. Then they are still wet and are passed through a special „Murska“ grain crusher, which breaks and smooths the grain.

About 3-5 litres of additives are used per tonne of grain. The crushed grain is stored in sealed plastic hoses, horizontal bins or silo silos.

„The moisture content of grain is usually between 30-40%, when the energy and protein content of the grain is at its highest," emphasises U. Stančiauskas, Director of UAB „interAG“. Early harvesting allows the cultivation of late varieties, which produce higher yields, and allows more flexible use of fertiliser and manure. Harvesting is possible even in adverse weather conditions.

It should be noted that the grain does not need to be dried before crushing, which also saves the farm a lot of energy and money.

Valueful and inexpensive feed for all livestock

Despite the earlier harvesting time, the nutrient content of the crushed grain is similar to that of fully mature grain.

For example, shredded maize can increase the milk yield of cows by up to 11%. As for other crops, several studies have even confirmed that dairy cows fed crushed cereals produce as much milk as those fed dried cereals. However, the key point here is that the farmer can harvest earlier and replace them with late varieties. So either way, the farm wins.

When it comes to beef cattle, crushed grain (compared to dried grain) makes cattle grow even faster when using crushed grain compared to dried grain. This has also been confirmed by scientific studies.

Crushed cereals have a 25% higher energy value

Crushed cereals have been shown to improve the daily weight gain and feed conversion ratio of broiler chickens. This is associated with a 25% increase in the energy value of crushed grain compared to dried grain.

„Murska“ technique crushed grains are also particularly suitable for pig feeding, especially in the case of liquid feed.

Crushed cereals are ready for feeding without any further processing. They can be used directly from the warehouse. Crushed cereals are stored in silos, plastic hoses, bags and silos. It is important not to forget to compress, cover and weigh them thoroughly.

Pressing is the most cost-effective way to produce high quality feed for all livestock. „Murska“ can offer solutions for every farm, as the hoses can be stuffed not only with crushed cereals, but also with silage, beet pulp and more.

„The benefits of „Murska“ crushers and plugs could be told for a long time, but it is better to just call us and consult us“, recommends U. Stančiauskas, Director of „interAG“ UAB.
