The State Plant Production Service reminds you that the labelling of bean seeds placed on the market must comply with the current European Union and national legislation.

The Order of the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania ,On the Approval of the Rules for the Storage, Placing on the Market and Use of Plant Protection Products“, provides that when placing on the market of pesticide-free plant seed, the supplier of the propagating material must label it.The labelling must comply with the requirements laid down in (EC) Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009.

Article 49 of that Regulation provides that the label of treated seeds and the accompanying documents must indicate the name of the plant protection product with which the seeds have been treated and the name of the active substance contained in that product.

The standard hazard and precautionary statements and risk mitigation measures provided for in Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 shall be included in the certificate of registration of that plant protection product.

If the seed lot has been chemically treated and labelled in accordance with the mandatory quality requirements for seed placed on the market, the names of the plant protection product and the active substance with which the seed has been treated shall be indicated in the "Other information" section of the label.

The products must be registered and included in a regularly updated list of registered plant protection products, which is published on the website of the Plant Protection Service.

„These provisions of the European Union and national legislation ensure the safe supply of pesticide-treated seeds on the market, protecting both the environment around us and the consumers themselves from harmful effects“," reminds Yuri Korniyenko, Director of the State Service for Plant Breeding.
