Estonia records a long-overdue annual increase in milk purchase prices in June

In Estonia, milk purchase prices were on average 1.1% higher last month than a year ago. The annual price increase follows a 13-month period of decline.

Milk prices for dairy farmers were 414.2 euros a tonne last month, the Estonia statistics department said on Thursday. Meanwhile, prices fell by an average of 1.4 per cent on a monthly basis in June compared to May.

Purchase volumes fell by 2.6 per cent on the month and rose by 9.5 per cent on the year to 78.2 thousand tonnes. Premium milk alone was bought at 67.5 thousand tonnes, up 13.3% on June last year.

The average fat content of milk bought in last month was 3.7% and the average albumen content 3.3%. Over the year, the former has fallen by 0.1 percentage points, while the latter has remained stable.

Estonian dairy processors last month produced around 8.9 thousand tonnes of drinking milk (up 7.2% year-on-year), 3.2 thousand tonnes of sour milk (down 5.9%), 2.6 thousand tonnes of cream (up 13%), 0.3 thousand tonnes of butter (around the same level), 5.5 thousand tonnes of cheeses and cottage cheese (up 37.5%).
