Final vision for the European Union's agriculture and food to be presented
European Commissioner for Agriculture Christophe Hansen will present his final vision for agriculture and food on 19 February. The Commissioner responsible for Agriculture and Food stressed that the vision outlines the conditions needed to sustain farming across the EU by 2040-2050. It is important that young people want to get involved in farming and that the EU's food sovereignty is safeguarded.
Christophe Hansen said that policy-making should focus on working with farmers, not against them. He described the next five years as "the beginning of challenges and opportunities". His main task during his term of office is to give a perspective to the next generation of farmers so that they can develop their businesses successfully. He also advocates a vibrant farming community that can ensure that Europe has enough food to eat without geopolitical tensions.
„The vision for farming and food” will go beyond the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to become a comprehensive tool to secure the future of agriculture in the European Union.
