German and Slovak farmers join historic Polish protest in Warsaw
Polish farmers are already hailing the January 3rd protest outside the European Commission's office in Warsaw as historic. The protest here will target the European Union's damaging policies towards agriculture. The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will be in Warsaw that day.
„This is a historic moment, because all the farmers' organisations in the country are with us and will protest against the EU's damaging policies. We will protest against Ursula von der Leyen, who is imposing a policy tone that will force our farms to close down," said Tomasz Obszańsk, President of the farmers' union Solidarność, at a press conference on 30 January outside the EC Representation Office.
Farmers from Slovakia and Germany will also join the protest. Among other things, the protest is said to be supported by all 14 of the largest farmers' organisations in Poland.
„I am happy that we are united as farmers. Today, the whole farming community is united and together we will oppose this harmful policy. We will strengthen the solidarity of Polish and European farmers," said Mr Obszańsk‘is.
„Farmers across Poland say they have had enough of Ursula von der Leyen's ideas. That is why we are all meeting in Warsaw on 3 January to give her an old Polish-style welcome that she will long remember. We will soon visit Ursula in Brussels, at the European Parliament headquarters," promised Tomasz Ognisty, Vice-President of Solidarność.
Under the slogan "5 x STOP !!!“", the Poles are seeking to stop the European Union's agreement with the South American Economic Organisation "Mercosur“", the EU's Green Deal, the import of agricultural products from Ukraine, the decline of Poland's economy, and the problems in the forestry and hunting sectors.
The protest will start at 2 pm in front of the EC Representation and will then move to the National Theatre for the opening ceremony of the Polish Presidency of the EU.
