Slight correction in the global milk market

The regular trading session of the dairy trading floor "Global Dairy Trade" (GDT) ended in negative territory. The GDT index fell by 0.4% to 1,142 points in trading on 3 September.

In the previous trading session, the GDT index shot up strongly. This time it rose by as much as 5.5%, fuelling expectations that the appreciation of dairy products might be on a more sustainable trend. Unfortunately, it is too early to say anything about this because, as the results of the last few months of the GDT index show, we are looking at a roller coaster ride in the short term. For example, in July, the GTD index was down 6.9%, while three weeks ago, as mentioned above, it was up 5.5%.

Thus, overall, we see little change in the market. But perhaps that is better than just seeing a downward trend?

In the last trading session, butter flour (+8.4%), Mozzarella cheese (+7.0%) and skimmed milk flour (+4.5%) were the most expensive. Cheddar cheese (+0.9%) also showed a slight increase.

Lactose (-8.9%) and whole milk flour (-2.5%) showed a decrease.

The GDT trading platform is owned by the New Zealand cooperative "Fonterra".

The trend in the Oceania area will reach Europe in about 1.5-2 months.
