I. Hofmann: Agricultural policy must be farmer-oriented
Ignas Hofmanas, Minister of Agriculture, attends the high-level international conference "Common Agricultural Policy for Food Security", in Warsaw.
At the conference, the Minister met with Czesław Siekierski, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Poland, and discussed opportunities for cooperation in the field of food safety.
In his opening speech at the conference, the Polish Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Czesław Siekierski, presented a report on the progress made in the field of agriculture and rural development. Siekierski, in his presentation of the continuing challenges facing EU agriculture, stressed the importance of partnership between EU Member States and a common vision. In his welcoming speech, he also thanked Minister I. Hofman for his participation, support and the development of strong ties between the two countries.
The event focused in particular on access to food through fair and sustainable market chains, highlighting the key role played by the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in shaping the future of food production, distribution and consumption, as well as in combating unfair trade practices. It was argued that strong and resilient food supply chains should effectively support more sustainable food production and consumption, while safeguarding agriculture.
„The CAP must continue to enable the development of effective and targeted support measures. The CAP must remain strong, distinct, adequately budgeted, farmer-oriented, contributing to the competitiveness of the agricultural sector, resilient to crises and sustainable. In Lithuania, we have established a Food Council. Its aim is to achieve sustainable, equitable and social dialogue-based development of the food sector by assessing the results of market monitoring, making proposals, contributing to greater transparency in pricing, etc.," said Minister I. Hofmanas.
The conference was organised by the Polish Presidency of the EU.
