Milk purchases in Latvia remain stable this year

In Latvia, 342.8 thousand tonnes of raw milk were purchased in the first five months of this year, roughly the same as in the same period last year, according to data released by the Latvian Agricultural Data Centre.

Only organic milk purchases are down 5.4% this year to 14.6 thousand tonnes.

The number of dairy cows in the country fell by 3.7% to 112,900 in the year to the end of last month, including 3.1% to 104,600 cows to be used for milk production.

In 2024, 833.7 thousand tonnes of raw milk will be purchased in Latvia, 0.6% more than in 2023.
