Discussions with Cecile Hanoune of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Climate Action
The President of the Chamber of Agriculture, Dr. Arūnas Svitojus, took part in a roundtable meeting with Ms Cecile Hanoune from the European Commission's Directorate General for Climate Action at the European Commission Representation Office.
Discussions at the meeting focused on Lithuania's National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) and the European Union's requirements for the Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) sector, Europe's climate targets for 2040, and other relevant issues.
„12 March 2024 The Commission published a Communication on managing climate-related risks in Europe, setting out how the EU and its countries can implement policies that save lives, reduce costs and protect prosperity. It responds directly to the European Environment Agency's first European Climate Risk Assessment. It also addresses the concerns of many Europeans following last year's record temperatures and extreme weather events. It is clear that we also need to take action in the agricultural sector to improve the management of and responsibility for climate-related risks. Of course, this requires not only tools for risk management, but also financial conditions and tools," says Dr. Svitojus.
