Is the celebration of good milk prices over?

Dairy trading floor „Global Dairy Trade“ (GDT) showed a negative performance in the last trading session – the GDT index fell by 1.4% to 1202 points. This is the second trading session in a row when the GDT index has fallen. Just over two weeks ago, the index was down 2.8%.

Now, lean and whole milk flours fell the most (2.2% and 2.1% respectively). Buttermilk and lactose prices also decreased (1.6% and 2.4%). However, other dairy products increased in price, such as butter (+2.6%), butter flour (+0.9%), Cheddar cheese (+1.0%) and Mozzarella cheese (+3.6%).

On the one hand, a negative trend can be discerned, but it would require the GDT index to fall to at least 1160 points over the next 1-2 sessions to confirm it. Until this happens, it is not worth panicking. Market corrections, even during a general upturn, are normal.

Lithuania's farm gate milk prices remain relatively high compared to other EU countries.

„Global Dairy Trade“ is owned by the agricultural cooperative „Fonterra“. Trends in the Oceania area reach Europe in about 1.5-2 months.
