Lithuania drops to 14th place in the EU in terms of average milk purchase prices
When it comes to raw milk procurement prices in the EU, Lithuania has been lagging slightly behind in the overall list of EU member states in recent months. According to the European Commission, in March Lithuanian milk producers were paid on average €52.84 per 100 kg of raw milk.
While in December 2024 the average farm-gate milk price reached a record high of €58.04/100 kg (5th in the EU), in January 2025 it fell to €54.89. Although it rose slightly in February (to €55.01), it dropped significantly again in March.
April figures will be published shortly.
If we look at what is happening in global markets, for example, the "Global Dairy Trade" (GDT) index, managed by the New Zealand cooperative "Fonterra" (GDT), has been consistently increasing with a slight correction since August 2023.
While in August 2023 the GDT Index had fallen to 850 points (or the lowest value since November 2018), it rose to 1,285 points in the last trading session. This is the highest value for the GDT Index since 5 July 2022.
