Milk market sees price correction, but it is too early to worry

On the dairy trading floor of "Global Dairy Trade" (GDT), the GDT index experienced a correction after three positive decades in the fourth trading session. It recorded a 2.8% decline to 1219 points. This does not mean yet that dairy prices have changed direction and will only fall from now on. This could be the case only if the GDT index drops to at least 1160 points in the next 2-3 trading sessions, so nothing bad has happened so far. Price correction is normal even when the general trend is upwards.

As mentioned above, dairy producers should not be worried for now. In the last 9 trading sessions (which are held twice a month), the GDT index has risen 6 times and fallen 3 times. The overall increase in the GDT index during this time was almost 12% or 73 points.

During the last trading session on 17 December, all dairy products except lactose (+0.5%) fell. Only butter flour was not traded.

This time, buttermilk (-3.8%), skimmed and whole milk flour (-2.9% each), Mozzarella cheese (-1.8%), butter (-0.6%) and Cheddar cheese (-0.2%) all fell in price.

„Global Dairy Trade“ is owned by the agricultural cooperative „Fonterra“. Trends in the Oceania area will reach Europe in about 1.5-2 months.
