Latvian crop yields this year could be higher than last year, according to the Latvian Agricultural Advisory and Education Centre.

On the other hand, its experts note that this year's yield potential has been significantly affected by the varying heat and moisture conditions in the regions, as well as by the increased prevalence of pests in cereals and oilseed rape. However, yields should be higher than last year's prolonged drought.

The average yield this year is forecast to be 3.6 tonnes per hectare for spring wheat, 3 tonnes per hectare for oats, 2.9 tonnes per hectare for spring barley, 1.5 tonnes per hectare for spring oilseed rape, 1 tonne per hectare for buckwheat and 23 tonnes per hectare per hectare for potatoes.

potatoes were harvested 4.6% more - 258.1 thousand tonnes.
