Poland builds up record high strategic stocks of cereals
„Bloomberg“ reports that Poland has built up record high stocks of grain to ensure food security in case of extreme weather conditions or geopolitical disruptions.
Understandably, Poland itself does not state the exact number of stocks, but they have been built up over the decades because the country is itself a grain exporter, and the last few years have also seen an increase in cross-border flows of grain from Ukraine.
" For as long as I can remember, Poland has held strategic food stocks, including grain. But we have never had such large strategic stocks of grain as we have today," Agnieszka Bogucka, director of Poland's Agency for Strategic Stocks, said in a media interview last week.
Many countries are building up these stocks for unforeseen crises. Norway and Finland have been stockpiling for decades, while Sweden plans to rebuild its stocks along with seeds and fertilisers, according to „Latifundist.com“.
Poland's current plan for its strategic stockpile agency covers the period 2022-2026, taking into account Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
