Lithuanian Farmers' Union plans to go to court over pensionable service deprivation

Lithuanian Farmers' Union (LFU) appeals to outgoing and incoming politicians to immediately address the artificially created problem of depriving 1,275 farmers who have suffered losses in their operations of their retirement pensionable seniority for the year 2023.

„For almost a year now, LFA has been in contact with the responsible authorities and has appealed to the highest authorities, but no solution to the problem has been found. We are convinced that the normative order of the government, which came into force on 21 January 2023 and which changed the rules of submission and adjustment of data on self-employed persons by the "Sodra", is socially unjust and violates the dignity of human beings and the rights guaranteed to them by the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania, – says LŪS chairman Raimundas Juknevičius in his public appeal. The farmer has worked all year, paid all the taxes due to "Sodra" not only for himself, but also for the workers on the farm, but in the end he was left without any social guarantees.

UFU stresses that if the authorities do not address the problem, the union does not rule out the possibility of going to court.

„We call on politicians to have the courage to remedy the situation as soon as possible, and if we do not receive any action and solutions from politicians, we will be forced to defend the rights of farmers in court“, – emphasizes in the letter.
