Fig harvest in Europe

As summer draws to a close, figs will soon be on the shelves in France. France ranks fourth in Europe for figs, with 7186 tonnes in 2023, but is well behind Spain with 250 000 tonnes, Italy and Greece.

The largest share of national production - 80% - is provided by local growers.

However, the following are much larger producers of figs:

Turkey – more than 350 000 tonnes

Egypt – more than 187 000 tonnes

Algeria – more than 112 000 tonnes

Morocco – about 109 000 tonnes

According to a report by „Future Market Insight”, the market for fresh figs could reach 1.45 billion dollars. It is forecast to exceed $2.38 billion by 2033.
