Polish farmers near the Lithuanian border again organise an action
A week-long action by Polish farmers is planned again in Poland, about 8 kilometres from the Lithuanian border, which could disrupt and complicate traffic on the A5 motorway, Lithuanian police said on Tuesday.
„The action will start on 20 March at 8 am and will last until 21 March at 8 pm (continuous). From 22-28 March, the campaign will run daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.," the police said in a statement.
More officers will be deployed at the border at the former Kalvarija checkpoint to help manage traffic flows, he said.
„ However, residents travelling to Poland on business and personal business in vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes would be advised to choose to enter neighbouring Poland via Lazdijai or other alternative routes, police said.
On 7 March, Polish farmers ended a šešešešešešešešešešešešešešday of protest at the border with Lithuania – on the roadside, they were checking their vehicles, looking at the goods that the trucks were carrying to Poland from še& Lithuania. They feared that some of the Ukrainian grain was returning to Poland from Lithuania.
About 6,000 trucks a day use this road.
