Last year's Latvian cereal harvest more solid
Latvia's cereal harvest last year increased by 16.1% to 3.152 million tonnes compared to 2023, the national statistics office said.
The cereal crop area was 0.4% higher last year than the year before at 800,800 hectares, with average yields rising 1.5% to 39.4 quintals per hectare. Yields increased for all cereal crops.
Winter wheat yields alone increased by 15.3% to 2.424 million tonnes. Winter wheat accounted for 69% of the total cereal harvest.
Latvia bought 2.96 million tonnes of cereals last year, 10.5% more than the previous year. The average purchase price fell by 8% to €191.71 per tonne.
The harvest of potatoes fell by 11.7% to 227.9 thousand tonnes, of vegetables by 2.3% to 108.4 thousand tonnes and of rapeseed by 28.7% to 100.4 thousand tonnes.
