A naming ceremony at the Pashilii Bison Mound
A bison naming ceremony was held at the Pašiliai bison farm. He was given the impressive name – Gigantas.
„The Bumblebee was christened by the whole class, not just one student. It was a whole class of pupils from Class 1C of the Academy School-Nursery „Gilė“ in Kaunas district. In total, about 400 pupils from 16–17 schools took part in the celebration. The pupils came from all over Lithuania," said Giedrius Bronušas, Head of the Panevėžys Regional Unit of the State Forest Enterprise.
The name Gigantas symbolises the majesty and power of this animal.
„One of our goals as foresters is to educate the public. It is the traditional events that we organise that are perhaps the best way to do this. We are very happy about the Bison Frog Festival, as this event attracts a lot of interest every year," added G. Bronušas.
There are currently 29 bison living in the Pašilių Bison Farm.
