10 cases of tick-borne encephalitis recorded in Lithuania this year
In the first three months of this year, 10 cases of encephalitis were reported in Lithuania. According to the National Centre for Public Health (NCPH), this is twice as many cases as in the same period last year.
„22 cases of tick-borne encephalitis were registered in January-March 2024“, – says the reply sent to Elta.
According to the NVSC, there has been an increase in the number of people being vaccinated against the disease. It is estimated that almost 316,000 adults and almost 88,000 children were vaccinated against tick-borne encephalitis last year, while in 2023 the figures will reach almost 300,000 and more than 86.6 thousand respectively.
ELTA recalls that 11 deaths from tick-borne encephalitis were recorded last year, with a total of more than 800 people infected.
