EU urges people to save water
The European Commission is urging people to save water in the face of increasing drought in Europe. A water strategy will be presented before the summer, EU Environment Commissioner Jessika Roswall told the German „Funke“ media group. „We know we are using too much water. We need to be aware of the problem and change the way we look at water," she said.
The objective, according to the Commissioner, is to reduce water consumption. Industry, farmers and we consumers need to understand that water resources are limited,“" stressed Ms Roswall.
One tool can be to measure water consumption in households. If people can see exactly how much water they are using, they will think more consciously about it," the Commissioner said. Similarly, during the energy crisis, it was suddenly possible to save a lot of money because people were aware of the problem.
In Europe, many countries have been suffering from increasing water scarcity for years. This has serious consequences for nature and agriculture, as well as for manufacturing industries and inland navigation.
