Harvest is also a busy time for firefighters: crops and harvesters on fire again

Firefighters rushed to extinguish burning crops, stubble, harvesters and dryers at least 6 times in the past day. 

A a field of cereals caught fire yesterday in the village of Juršiškės in the Kaišiadorys district. Farmers arrived and ploughed up the burning stretch. 

„A cereal field of about 10 hectares was on fire. Extinguished. 3 hectares of cereals were burnt“, – firefighters inform.

Another report of a fire has been received from the village of Darsuniskis, Kaišiadorys district. It was reported that grain is burning in a grain dryer.

„When the firefighters arrived, there was smoke coming from a metal grain dryer (5x5 m, 9 m high), but there was no naked flame. Dust was burning above a diesel-fired heating furnace. The drying room contained 33 tonnes of rapeseed. The rapeseed was transferred from the dryer to trailers, firefighters report.

Firefighters from the Kėdainiai district rushed to two fires related to agriculture yesterday. 

A report was received from Kraki that a cereal field was on fire and the fire was spreading. 

„A combine harvester Case IH 5088 was on fire, extinguished by the owners before the arrival of firefighters. The combine harvester caught fire and scorched 4 hectares of stubble. After the stubble had been extinguished and the firefighters were on duty, the combine harvester started to cultivate and the dust between the units caught fire again. Plastic parts were burnt and 2 hectares of crops were also set on fire, according to the summary of the previous day's events.

In the village of Rudakiai, firefighters were also called to the scene after a combine harvester was seen smoking in the fields and the driver was trying to put it out. There was no fire – the coolant of the „John Deere“ combine harvester had boiled.

Fields and stubble were on fire in the village of Žinėnai, Jonava district. When the firefighters arrived, the fire had already been extinguished by the people themselves with powder extinguishers. Stubble on 0.5 acres was burnt.

In the village of Baleliai, in the Ukmergė district, a combine harvester "Claas 670“" was on fire. The fire burnt all the flammable parts of the combine harvester. About 10 acres of stubble were burnt.
