Klaipėda port handled more grain but less fertiliser this year
During the first 11 months of this year, 32.3 million tonnes of cargo were handled in the Port of Klaipėda, 7% more than in the same period last year, the company announced.
Klaipeda State Seaport Authority said that in recent months, the main contributors to these results have been the growing cargo volumes of ferry vehicles, containerised cargo, construction materials, iron and steel products, timber and grain.
It is estimated that general cargo, which includes containerised cargo, timber, iron and steel products and metal structures, refrigerated and ro-ro cargo, was loaded in the Port of Klaipėda by 14% more this year than in the same period last year. This segment is reported to have handled 16.7 million tonnes.
In addition, it is noted that containerised cargo, ferry vehicles, iron and steel products, metal constructions, wood products increased, while only refrigerated cargoes decreased this year.
In January-November this year, the cargo of the bulk cargo segment in the Port of Klaipėda amounted to 9.7 million tonnes and was 14% higher than in the same period last year. On the other hand, LNG, liquid fertilisers and oils were handled 16% less this year than last year. According to the company, their handling amounted to 5.9 million tonnes.
This year, 5 086 ships were registered in the Port of Klaipėda and 362 509 passengers used the port's services.
