How to grow a bountiful crop of carrots: Chinese methods
Do you dream of juicy, delicious carrots in your garden? While traditional growing methods are well known, these two Chinese methods will not only make the planting process easier, but also ensure a great harvest.
Chinese methods: An innovative solution with toilet paper
The first method, although it sounds unusual, is surprisingly effective. Here's what to do:
Prepare the soil:
- Thoroughly dig the soil
- Add fertiliser (superphosphate, phytosporin or humus)
- Level the surface
Prepare the „seeding strips”:
- Cut toilet paper into narrow strips
- Attach the carrot seeds at the optimum distance with the help of glue
- Prepare the furrows in the bed
- Lay out the prepared seed strips
The advantages of this method are obvious – there will be no need to thin the seedlings and weeding will be much easier as you will be able to see clearly where the carrots are growing.
Bottle method: simple but effective
The second method is particularly suitable when you want to give extra protection to the seeds:
- Take a 0.5 l plastic bottle
- Add the required amount of seeds per bed
- Add fine dust
- Shake well
- Disperse the mixture evenly into the prepared furrows
Notes and tips
Whichever method you choose, it is recommended to water the beds with birch tar before sowing. Prepare a solution: mix 1 teaspoon of tar in 10 litres of water.
These methods not only make the planting process easier but also ensure that:
- Even seed distribution
- Optimum plant spacing
- Easier maintenance during growth
- Higher yields
Try these methods in your garden and enjoy a great carrot harvest!
