PAGD nuotr.

In the village of Preičiūnai, in the Pakruojis district, a huge barn went up in flames, and it was only thanks to a swift response that a greater disaster was averted – the livestock were successfully led out of the burning building before the first emergency services arrived.

A huge building was ablaze

A report of the incident was received from the Pakruojis parish. When the firefighters arrived, the scene was alarming – a wooden barn with a slate roof was already ablaze.

As the building was wooden and the roof was covered with flammable and highly heat-generating materials, the fire spread like wildfire.

Inside – flammable materials; livestock rescued

The following were burning in the barn during the fire:

a large quantity of hay,

dry straw,

and stacked firewood.

These materials allowed the fire to flare up rapidly and hampered the fire-fighting efforts. Fortunately, the worst consequences were avoided – all the livestock in the building were safely herded out into the field before the fire and rescue service arrived. No people were injured in the incident.

The circumstances of the incident and the cause of the fire are under investigation.
