Since September, the Latvian State Revenue Service has been inspecting every consignment of grain imported from Russia and Belarus, as reported on Thursday on the TV3 programme „900 seconds“

According to her, the documents for all grain shipments are being checked to ascertain whether the grain is being imported from Russian-occupied territories in Ukraine.

B. Šmitė-Rokė noted that the Food and Veterinary Service is taking samples of grain shipments in transit and sending them to laboratories in France and the United Kingdom to determine whether this grain originates from Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine.

If the results confirm that the grain comes from the occupied territories of Ukraine, the recipients will be informed, and in Latvia this information may form the basis for restricting the activities of a specific carrier and possibly prohibiting it from continuing to transit grain through the country.

The Director-General of the agency noted that, over the first nine months of this year, the volume of grain transit from Russia and Belarus was 2.7 times higher than last year.
