Lithuanian dairy processors and fishery companies have been allowed to export to Turkey – the country's authority confirmed on Monday that producers on its register will be able to import their products in accordance with the new requirements.

14 dairy and three fishery processing plants have been approved – all seeking to export their products. They can legally supply products to a market of around 87.8 million people.

„Lithuanian companies have reacted quickly to the changes and have shown the highest professionalism. This is undoubtedly an important achievement for the food sector, as Turkey's new import permits strengthen the competitiveness of our companies in the international arena," said Audronė Mikalauskienė, head of the Authority, in a statement.

According to the Authority, the approval of the companies took three months, but all the procedures went smoothly, and it was possible to provide all the information requested by Turkey in a short time.

The new register of the Turkish authority includes four Estonian, 15 Latvian and 17 Lithuanian companies.
