Latvia's grain harvest in 2025 1.4% more robust

Latvia's grain harvest last year increased by 1.4% to 3.197 million tonnes compared to 2024, the national statistics office has reported.

The area under cereal crops last year was 5.4% lower than the year before at 575,700 hectares, but average yields rose by 7.1% to 42.4 quintals per hectare.

The Service notes that winter cereals contributed to the increase in total cereal yields, with 202.4 thousand, or 8.3%, of the total area harvested, while average yields rose from 47.5 to 49 quintals per hectare.

Winter wheat's share of the total cereal harvest increased from 69 per cent to 75.2 per cent.

Latvia bought 2.801 million tonnes of grain last year, 5.6% less than the previous year. The average purchase price fell by 14% to €166.77 per tonne.

The potato harvest fell by 11.1% to 202.5 thousand tonnes, the vegetable harvest fell by 21.7% to 84.9 thousand tonnes, while the rapeseed harvest rose by 19.6% to 120.1 thousand tonnes.
