Transit of Russian grain through Latvia increased 2.7 times in the first quarter

The transit of Russian grain through Latvia in the first quarter of this year increased 2.7 times compared to the same period last year, according to the State Revenue Service.

In the first quarter, 139,400 tonnes of grain products from Russia passed through Latvia, which is 2.7 times more than in the first quarter of 2025 (52,655 tonnes).

Of the cereal products in transit through Latvia in the first quarter, 133 694 tonnes were wheat and a mixture of wheat and rye, 4 493 tonnes of rapeseed or rapeseed, 40.7 tonnes of rice, 15 tonnes of sorghum and 10.1 tonnes of maize.

Compared to the first quarter of 2025, the transit of wheat and a mixture of wheat and rye in the first quarter of this year increased by 2.6 times, the transit of rapeseed or rapeseed increased by 2.7 times, the transit of buckwheat, sorghum and barley increased by 7.4 times, the transit of rice decreased by three times, and the transit of maize – decreased by four times.

In the whole of last year, 673,491 tonnes of cereal products were transited from Russia through Latvia, which is 2.9 times less than in 2024 (1.945 million tonnes).
