Samogitians cancel "Presentation of the Manure Management Plan" action in Vilnius
The protest organised by the Telšiai District Farmers' Union (TRŪS) at the Ministry of Agriculture, which was due to take place on Thursday in Vilnius, will not take place.
Telšiai district farmers announce that the protest is postponed.
„Please be informed that the planned manure action is postponed and cancelled after the signing of the agreed draft description of manure and slurry management–, – said in a statement issued by TRŪS head Zita Dargienė.
After intensive discussions and meetings, she said, "we have received written confirmation from the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture that the solutions of the draft have been agreed."
„We are currently awaiting the official signature of the agreed project in the Register of Documents. This is an important step forward and a sign that the arguments of the social partners have been heard. Therefore, we are now giving the institutions the opportunity to complete the processes that have been started and to formalise the agreed changes," explains Z. Dargienė in a statement.
Telšiai district farmers have shared videos of their trip to Vilnius today.
„We called, we called. We drove, we drove. We talked, we talked. There is no agreement between the ministries. Well, somehow we have to go and we will do the fertilization plan in Vilnius", – said the farmers, who lined up their machinery in Luoke.
However, a few hours later, they were assured that the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture had finally agreed on the legislation between them and it seems that a document has already been drafted that will not require farmers to prepare fertilisation plans. This was allegedly an unnecessary requirement for farmers, as the authorities already have all the information about farmers.
„If the agreements are not put into practice – the farming community reserves the right to return to active action (...) Sometimes the biggest victory is not the protest, but the agreement reached!“, – says Z. Dargienė.
