After the discovery of 55 dead animals on a deer farm in Šiauliai district, nature conservationists imposed an administrative penalty on the owner of the farm, Vidmantas Kavaliauskas, while the police did not open an investigation into the possible poisoning of the deer, writes the portal LRT.lt.

On arrival at the farm, officials from the Wildlife Protection Service and the State Food and Veterinary Service (VMVT) found that about half of the herd in the enclosure had died. The VMTV was unable to find out why the animals had died, as the deer had died too long ago.

An investigation by environmentalists, however, revealed that the farm had not kept proper records of the animals' deaths. The last record was made in December last year.

The farmer has not been penalised for this offence & has been given a warning.

Kavaliauskas himself, who claimed that he would go to the police about the poisoning of the livestock, did not file any statement. Therefore, the law enforcement authorities did not open any investigation into the possible poisoning of the herd.
