A bison wandered into a herd of cows in Stebuliai – a farmer captured the unusual visitor on camera

The appearance of a bison in our region no longer comes as a surprise, but when it turns up amongst farmers’ herds of cows, this mighty creature still catches the eye.

The bison was spotted by farmer Rasa Jarmalienė from the village of Stebuliai. She saw it wandering around her cows.

“It’s popped round to visit us too,” thought the woman.

“We saw the bison in the meadow. It must have come during the night and stayed until dawn,” said Rasa when interviewed.

It was the first time she’d seen such a huge animal in her meadow – it made quite an impression. According to her, it wouldn’t let anyone get close, shunned people and was afraid of the tractor.

“The men were driving the tractor, and when it saw them, it trotted off towards the woods,” she explains.

The farmer doesn’t know if it will return. Perhaps this was its first and last farewell to her cows and their owners.

Rasa is, of course, a well-known cheesemaker in our region. Her hand-pressed cheeses are enjoyed by family and friends. They say it’s delicious, and as it’s beautifully presented, it’s perfect as a gift.

Recently, Rasa’s cheeses even made their way to Biržai, where the Stebuliai Future Community were visiting. They surprised everyone with their unusual decoration: it turns out that not all cheeses are the same – a beautifully decorated one is even more delicious to eat.

Rasa decorates her cheeses with edible flowers – just as a baker decorates cakes, so she decorates her cheeses.

I joke that Rasa can now confidently call her cheeses ‘Stumbras’ cheeses. The cheesemaker smiles but doesn’t answer the question directly.

And the farmer’s cows won’t give birth to any bison offspring either; although the forest giant watched them affectionately, he didn’t dare to break away from the electric fence and come any closer.
