Fire at Kaunas Zoo. Animals had to be rescued
A fire broke out in Kaunas Zoo on Saturday morning and the main building was evacuated, reports the portal „What's on in Kaunas“.
„A fire broke out at the zoo and the main building was evacuated. The zoo has been evacuated from the main building and the zoo has been evacuated to the main building. No fire is visible, but some animals are being taken away by the zoo staff," a reader told the portal.
According to the duty officer of Kaunas County Chief Police Commissariat, according to initial data, the fire was caused by an electrical fault. According to the portal, a large number of firefighters are working at the scene.
The official clarified that no injuries were reported, but a two-toed sloth had to be evacuated from the building, as its slow movements did not allow it to escape from the smoke-filled building.
The Lithuanian Zoo has reportedly resumed operations. On Saturday, visitors will temporarily be unable to see the entire zoo's exhibition, so today the adult ticket price will be €5, while children will be able to visit the zoo free of charge.
