A fire on a farm in Telšiai region damages machinery of a productive dairy farm. The losses are enormous
On Friday evening, the General Emergency Centre issued a report that a fire had broken out on a farm in the Telšiai district. There are animals inside“. According to the centre, the information about the fire was received at 21.05 hours.
The farm where the fire broke out is located in Subedžio Street in the village of Kalnėnai, Gadūnavas municipality. A representative of the Fire Protection and Rescue Department (PAGD) told Elta that the farm building is on fire. It contains livestock, fuel tanks and gas cylinders. Seven tankers were on the scene to extinguish the fire.
„Agrobitei“ contacted Zita Dargiene, the head of the Telšiai District Farmers' Union, who is a member of the union, I.S., and found that the fire damage was enormous.
„It was reported that a farm with livestock was on fire, but the livestock were on a nearby farm. They are safe. There was a nearby hangar on fire, where all the farm machinery was piled up," said Z. Dargienė, adding that the losses are likely to be very high. It has not yet been calculated, but the losses could be close to one million euros.
„All the agricultural machinery was in Angare – combine harvesters, choppers, balers. More than half of the machinery was completely burnt," said Z. Dargienė.
As it turns out, the property was not insured, and the farm itself is a highly productive dairy farm with more than 100 dairy cows, and has won several awards from the Ministry of Agriculture.
The leader of the Telšiai District Farmers' Union confirmed that the whole farming community will probably be approached to provide material support to the farm. Perhaps some farmers would contribute money and others machinery.
