LŪS: the government imitates social dialogue with farmers
On Friday, the Lithuanian Farmers' Union (LFA) held its congress at the VMU Academy of Agriculture, where the LFA membership certificate was awarded to the Farmers' Union of Vilkaviskis Region. The latter is an active member of the farming community and joined the LŪS on 8 April this year.
The new chairpersons of the seven LŪS branches, who have changed since last year's congress, were also welcomed at the congress.
According to the LFA report, 36 of the 39 LFA chapters are represented at the congress, with nearly 130 delegates.
„We are certainly living with anxiety at the present time, when an early spring that promised good weather has turned immediately into autumn-like cold weather that is already certain to significantly reduce yields,
says the LFA.
In addition, the Government this Wednesday approved amendments to tax laws proposed by the Ministry of Finance.
„The last week has been devoted to meetings with representatives of various political groups and the anxiety about the tax burden that has been generated has, unfortunately, not dissipated. Can we still be heard and understood – we will probably learn something new during this congress as well“, – the LŪS said in a statement, adding that the government is not listening to the comments and suggestions made by the LŪS and the farmers, and is not addressing the issues raised.
„Social dialogue is more imitated than really aimed at finding the best solutions“, – stresses LŪS.
A resolution is planned to be adopted at the end of the congress, setting out in writing the visible and correctable problems in farmers' activities.
