Firefighters in Šilutė district fought for three hours against a huge fire in Tarvydai village (Šilutė district), when it was reported that a stacked hay cone had caught fire in an open area in the early hours of the morning.

The fire was reported at 4.25 a.m., and was not extinguished until around 7 a.m. It is not yet clear why the hay caught fire at such an early hour.

„On arrival, a cone of stacked hay (30x5x4 m) was burning in open flames. Around 800 tonnes of hay were on fire, – the Fire and Rescue Department (FRA) reported. The hay cone 10 metres away was protected.

The farmer's two tractors assisted in the extinguishing work.

The hay was loaded onto trailers and transported to the fields.

During the fire, two hay cones (both 600 m³) were burnt and dismantled, broken up and transported.
