"Belaruskali seeks to recover around €12 billion from Lithuania

With Lithuania suspending the transit of Belarusian potash fertilisers from February 2022, the Belarusian fertiliser producer „Belaruskalij“, which has initiated arbitration proceedings against the country, seeks to claim damages of more than EUR 12 billion (around EUR 11.8 billion), the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague announced on Monday.

„In its Statement of Claim, the Claimant („Belaruskali“ ELTA) seeks damages from the Republic of Lithuania in the amount of USD 12,090,167,971 as of 27 November 2024, according to the announcement by the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA).

According to the court, the statement of claim was filed on 2 December 2024, and the arbitration proceedings against Lithuania were initiated by the Belarusian state-owned company on 17 October 2023.
