Dutch agricultural cooperative „Royal Cosun“ plans to invest up to EUR 100 million in a high-quality plant-based protein plant in Lithuania, the portal „Verslo Žinios“ reports.

The Lithuanian government has pledged to provide a subsidy to „Royal Cosun“ to support the construction of the plant.

On 23 December, the company „Cosun Ingredients“ was registered in Vilnius for the production of protein. It is not yet known how large a plot of land will be needed for the plant. It is also unclear how many new jobs may be created.

As BNS reported, the Kaunas Free Economic Zone (FEZ) has been chosen as a potential location for the plant. The plant would be part of the „Cosun Protein“ division that produces „Tendra“ bean protein isolates.

„Royal Cosun“ owns „Aviko“, „Cosun Beet Company“, „Duynie“, „Cosun Protein“ and „Sensus“. Last year, „Royal Cosun“ had a total annual turnover of over €3 billion.
